Welcome to the fine art Calligraphy and Tiles Gallery.
The original art in this gallery features contemporary and collaged calligraphic themes and numerous Asian inspired pieces using calligraphy as subject matter as one would paint flowers or a landscape. They are mixed media using gesso, handmade paper, Chinese watercolors, gold leaf, fabric, and calligraphy as textural elements. There are also layered quotations of traditional and abstracted contemporary lettering written in gouache and ink.
Many of these calligraphic fine art originals are referred to as tiles because of the use of blocks of walnut and colored ink as a background for the art. The lettering may or may not be legible, as it the textural dynamics of the art that is the dominant element enriching the painting or quotation. The contemporary abstract layering and use of resist is common in Paschke's work and many of these include touches of 24k gold leaf to make the quotations sparkle. Many of the sentiments and quotations are of Zen origin and patterned from the I Ching.
